Crowds of people packed into Coventry to watch Lady Godiva Awake and prepare for her journey to London in a spectacular event at the weekend.

The Godiva Awakes show on Saturday night in University Square was the culmination of months of hard work and was watched by a packed ticket-only crowd, with many more watching on a big screen in Broadgate.

Then, thousands more turned out on Sunday to watch the Godiva Awakes carnival and parade, as the huge iconic figure, powered by 100 cyclists, wound her way though the city streets.

The giant Lady Godiva is now heading all the way to London to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Complete with blonde hair and blue eyes, Lady Godiva walked from the Cathedral Ruins to Broadgate at 11am on Sunday to meet her bike-powered Cyclopedia for the first time before the carnival.

She was dressed in a size 54 embroidered coat and has size 72 shoes.

She lead the 40-minute carnival with a 2,000-strong team of dancers, actors, musicians and pyrotechnicians as she made her way through the streets of Coventry.

Lady Godiva then left Coventry with her team of cyclists and is heading towards London through seven towns in seven days.
