Coventry Creative Futures has been granted the Inspire Mark the badge of the London 2012 Inspire Programme.
The London 2012 Inspire programme recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Creative Futures sits within the City Councils sporting futures project and provides young people living in Coventry with the opportunity to take part in community based arts projects.
These projects include dance, music, drama and graffiti. The project operates in four geographical wards in the City and uses the arts to engage with young people and provide them with positive activities.
The young people taking part in these projects will showcase their achievements in an end of year performance focused around the theme of London 2012.
This will be an event that brings together young people form different areas, cultures and backgrounds to highlight the diversity of London 20102 and the collaboration of sport and art.
Seb Coe, Chair, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games said: “Coventry Creative Futures is encouraging young people in Coventry to fulfil their potential.
I am proud that with the help of partners such as creative Futures we are delivering on our vision to use the power of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to boost participation in the arts
Nicola Capok Project Co-ordinator said. "This is a fantastic achievement for our project and the young people involved. Our project will be a genuine linkage for young people from priority neighbourhoods in Coventry.
The majority of young people we talk to do not feel a connection with 2012 and have no way of feeling part of the national developments surrounding the games.
The creative futures programme of activities will give young people the opportunity to take part in and shape a scheme of activity that will see them learn new skills, volunteer in their community, take part in cultural and/or sporting Olympic themed events and make a lasting positive change to their lives and the communities they live in inspired by the Olympics."
