Coventry has been chosen as one of 66 cities to host an evening celebration of the Olympic Torch Relay. On Sunday 1 July 2012, the Olympic Flame will be carried into the City with a spectacular celebration event for thousands of Coventry people to attend and enjoy and experience this iconic symbol of the Games.
As a result, this project will inspire schools to develop their own concept of the torch relay, allowing pupils to be involved and feel part of the 2012 Games and have their own experience of being a torchbearer.
As part of National School Sport Week and linking into the London 2012 Get Set Education programme, each school will design their own torches, plan their own relay and deliver a celebration specific to their school, generating greater awareness of the London 2012 Games and building excitement ahead of the torch visiting the City.
Each school will draw inspiration from their local surroundings and the city to reflect what is important the pupils of their community.
The week before the torch comes to Coventry (25-20 June 2012), each school across the city will then stage their own torch relay within school grounds, involving every child to experience holding their schools torch and having their very own Olympic Moment.
