The Opening Ceremony is a chance for the UK to celebrate the coming together of the wolrd for the Games. It has particular poignancy in the UK as Stoke Mandeville is widely recognised as the birthplace of the Paralympic Games.
Each Opening Ceremony has a number of formal elements which include the lighting of the Paralympic Cauldron and a parade of nations in which athletes enter the Olympic Stadium in alphabetical order, with the Host Nation entering last.
